Teaching Tips and Workshops
I strongly believe that teaching is enhanced through fellowship with colleagues and the sharing of teaching strategies, materials, and concerns related to the classroom. To this end I have taken every opportunity to improve my teaching through the programs offered by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). Through participation in and leading numerous workshops and faculty learning communities (FLC) offered through CETL, I have had the opportunity to develop successful strategies I have employed in my classes and helped my fellow colleagues development as well. These experiences have been very rewarding for me in that they have given me the opportunity to share with my colleagues my passion and “philosophy” for teaching, as well as some of the strategies I employ in my classes to communicate what many students feel is difficulty material.
2020 - Learn How to Use ZipGrade. Presented as part of CETL Workshop series @ OCU.
In short, ZipGrade is ScanTron on steriods. Like ScanTron, you have templated answer sheets (either 20, 50, or 100 questions or customize your own) that you can "scan" to grade. However, you don't need a special scanner to do the grading. Simply download the ZipGrade app on your mobile devise and setup your account on www.ZipGrade.com. There are so many options for a very cheap annual fee (less than $10.00). You can customize the answer sheets, provide feedback for your students, and much more. In fall 2017 I began using ZipGrade for the multiple choice portion of my exams and quizzes and it has assisted me in providing quick feedback to my students.
